Flickr users can now add video clips alongside their photos, a much requested and much anticipated feature that has been promised for over a year.
The goal is not to have people upload long videos or clips of copyrighted material. To reinforce that, videos can be only 90 seconds in length and 150MB in size (however these limitations may be changed later, Srivastava says).
Cool.
Personally I wish they would stay focused on the photographic experience. I guess this is a natural extension though.
Video often IS part of the 'photographic experience'.
Many photographers, myself included use multimedia presentations (aka video) to promote / display photography and to tell a story with pictures and sound.
I would say that is a slideshow. While technically it is a video it is not what most people are thinking of .
I know what you mean, Bryant, but I do think it's the natural progression. After all, millions use Flickr, and millions more use YouTube to post videos that are personal and not copyrighted. Those two pursuits belong together.
The tagging, length restrictions, and the fact that only pro (serious) users can upload video will provide an interesting experience.
What "most people are thinking of" is irrelevant to the reality. Video and photography go quite nice together.
